The Emerging New Normal – Why We Have to be Aware
Updated: Nov 20, 2020

Many people don’t understand that the lockdown is merely to slow the spread of the COVID 19 infection, NOT to eradicate it by the end of May. They are missing the point because they foolishly think the government will somehow get rid of it hoping that life will return to normal. These are people who have ignored the new reality that is affecting the whole world today!
Flattening the curve means slowing down the disease so that hospitals can handle the sick. It does not mean exterminating the disease altogether. It is doubtful that any government will be able to eradicate the disease this year. The virus will continue to spread until a cure, or a vaccine is found.
The possibility of finding a vaccine is at least a year away. That’s April 2021. Vaccine trials just began late March 2020. It usually takes 18 to 24 months to make, test and assess the effectiveness of a vaccine.
There is no going back to normal. Our normal will not exist for at least a year. Economies globally will keep bleeding, and we are likely to have rolling lockdowns until a vaccine is found. Until a vaccine is found, many will continue to self-isolate and practice social distancing even when a lockdown is lifted.
The only reprieve we are going to get is if we have thousands of people who have been infected and recovered and minimum deaths so that we have some level of herd immunity. That is yet to be proven because some countries found people get reinfected. Even with that in place, the old normal is no longer feasible because fear still reigns, and people will remain isolated until a proven vaccine is found.
We are projected to reach our peak in September. That means, a sluggish economy, rolling lockdowns, death, and chaos until then. We need to stop having delusional ideas about any level of normalcy at the end of this month. Companies and organisations should adjust their expectations about returning to normal. The old normal is dead.
Like it or not, the new normal is emerging. Senior management must be at the forefront to lead this inevitable change! eCEOs is ever ready to help you navigate this journey.
